Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Unit Secretary for 36 hours per week on three 12-hour night shifts (7:30pm–8:00am) in Chicago. The role greets patients and visitors, coordinates information at the nurses’ station, and assists physicians, nurses, and care teams to support a smooth patient stay.

You will manage medical records, EMR downtime readiness, and unit readiness while ensuring timely communication and escalation when needed. Strong keyboard and patient service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Computer experience.
• Unit secretary experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, visitors and staff at the unit reception.
• Coordinate information flow at the nurses’ station using AIDET.
• Assist care team by coordinating patient care and stay logistics.
• Maintain medical records preparation and EMR scanning as needed.
• Support patient flow from admission to discharge and coordinate with nursing staff.
