Job summary

Sonoco in Memphis, TN is seeking a Tool and Die Maker for a night shift on a 12-hour schedule. Wage is $39.41 per hour with weekends off exposure. You will maintain tooling, read blueprints, perform precision machining, and support production by keeping tooling and equipment in top condition.

Responsibilities include safety adherence, equipment maintenance, detailed documentation, and on-the-job training. Strong blueprint reading and precision measurement skills required.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years tooling fabrication and die assembly experience (preferred).
• Proficient with precision measuring tools.
• Read and interpret machinist drawings.
• Operate an engine lathe.
• Slab milling, face milling and keyways.
• Boring and drilling operations.
• Know tap and drill sizes with decimal equivalents.
• Surface grinding experience.
• Polishing radii on die tooling.
• Welding and oxy-acetylene torch operation.
• Read blueprints and demonstrate tool-and-die skills.
• Work with basic math including geometry.
• Operate and use computer tools.

Responsibilities

• Complies with safety practices and corporate directives for safe work performance.
• Supports food safety system guidelines.
• Maintain a safe and secure work environment, participate in safety meetings, inspections, and investigations as required.
• Follow SOPs and Sonoco’s Code of Conduct.
• Maintain tooling and equipment in production operations.
• Sign out parts from storeroom and return unused items.
• Complete detailed work order documentation for maintenance/repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on schedule.
• Review blueprints/work orders; create drawings/sketches as needed.
• Interpret drawings and determine dimensions for parts.
• Perform layout work as required.
• Provide on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
• Receive tools and paperwork; maintain logbooks.
• Select, grind, and adjust tools and feeds for efficient machining.
• Machine parts to required tolerances and finish.
• Set up and operate lathes, grinders, mills, and hones.
• Dismantle, fit, and assemble for equipment maintenance.
• Repair and maintain machines and tooling.
• Assist in inspection of tooling and operate inspection equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
