Job summary

Anna Jaques Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a Switchboard Operator for evenings/nights per diem. You will relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls, provide information to visitors, and assist with paging and beeper systems.

You will handle emergency communications during fire, Code Blue/Red, and alarms; maintain confidentiality; train new operators; and log activities. Requires high school diploma and 1–2 years switchboard experience; pay range $17.00–$23.34 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years general switchboard experience preferred; hospital setting preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls using the telephone switchboard.
• Relay information over paging and beeper systems as needed.
• Display patience and tact when dealing with hospital personnel.
• Present the department in a positive manner to visitors, vendors, and hospital personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and department information.
• Manage emergency situations for fire and safety as they arise.
• Respond to Code Blue, Code Red alarms and complete necessary communications.
• Log all information in log books as required.
• Provide information services to staff, visitors and patients.
• Train new switchboard operators as assigned by the chief information officer.
