Job summary

Transition Projects, Inc. in Portland seeks a Residential Advocate for the Willamette Center Shelter. This full-time role involves supervising shelter activities, providing advocacy, and coordinating with staff to support participants experiencing homelessness.

Will work Friday to Tuesday nights, earning $24.50 per hour plus a $1 grave shift differential. Candidates must have at least 2 years of consistent work experience, understand homelessness issues, and be able to perform crisis

Qualifications

• 2 years of consistent work experience (in any field) or equivalent educational qualifications.
• Understanding of homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Ability to work independently and assess a situation; take corrective action.
• Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons in Multnomah County.
• Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention and follow procedures in crisis situations.
• Written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills; ability to use web-based data collection program.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shelter activities to ensure the safety of participants.
• Provide advocacy, information, and referral services to participants.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep of facility; perform minor maintenance.
• Coordinate with agency staff to ensure consistent delivery of services.
• Attend agency and program staff meetings.
• Supervise participant chore assignments.
• Perform urinalysis and breathalyzer testing when requested.
• Rotate through assigned Post Positions if applicable.
