Job summary

Transition Projects, Inc. seeks a Residential Advocate for the Willamette Center Shelter in Portland, OR. The role covers evening through late shift Sunday to Thursday, providing advocacy, information, referrals, and crisis support to shelter participants.

Responsibilities include safety supervision, policy adherence, documentation, and coordination with staff. Requires 2+ years of work experience and familiarity with housing-related services; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• 2 years of consistent work experience in any field or equivalent education may be considered.
• Understanding of homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Ability to work independently and assess situations to take corrective action.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shelter activities to ensure participant safety.
• Maintain knowledge of agency programs and community resources.
• Provide advocacy, information, and referral services to participants.
• Ensure facility cleanliness, sanitation, and upkeep; perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Facilitate problem solving and provide crisis intervention services.
• Know and follow agency, program, and building policies and procedures.
• Know and follow emergency and critical incident procedures.
• Maintain logs, shift reports, and participant records accurately; both paper and web-based.
• Maintain confidentiality of participants, staff, and agency.
• Coordinate with agency staff for consistent service delivery.
• Attend agency and program staff meetings.
• Supervise participant chore assignments.
• Perform urinalysis and breathalyzer testing when requested.
• Rotate through assigned Post Positions if applicable.
• May be reassigned to another location to provide coverage; transportation provided or reimbursed.
