Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is hiring an Overnight Security Officer I to safeguard patients, staff and visitors. The role runs 11:00 PM–7:30 AM, Monday through Friday, and involves patrolling, incident response, and collaboration with medical staff.

Responsibilities include enforcing policies, monitoring alarms and cameras, and assisting in emergency codes. Requires HS diploma, IAHSS Basic certification, BLS, and defensive tactics training within indicated timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire.
• Maintain IAHSS Basic certification.
• Current Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association) within 9 months of hire.
• Complete Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months of hire.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse people.
• Writing skills to complete reports meeting standards.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and quells hospital incidents and disturbances to protect people and property.
• Notifies city officials and prepares descriptive supervisory reports.
• Patrols hospital perimeter and interiors to prevent unauthorized entry.
• Investigates hazardous conditions, theft, and safety issues as reported.
• Monitors access control, alarms, and security video systems.
• Controls traffic to ensure emergency access and patient/visitor flow.
• Provides escorts for staff to their vehicles and handles morgue liaison.
• Responds to emergency codes per department guidelines.
• Enforces hospital policies and maintains professional service image.
• Performs contraband searches as needed and monitors safety.
