Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Security Officer I to support hospital safety and patient protection. This casual role involves flexible hours, on-site patrols, incident investigation, and collaboration with staff and clinical teams to prevent loss and ensure a secure environment.

You will monitor access control systems, alarms, and video feeds, complete clear incident reports, and respond to emergencies in line with department guidelines.

Qualifications

• Education: High-school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• IAHSS Basic certification within 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support certification within 9 months of hire.
• Defensive Tactics in Healthcare training within 6 months of hire.
• Interpersonal and writing skills to interact with diverse people and document incidents.

Responsibilities

• Investigates disturbances to maintain patient, visitor, and employee security.
• Completes descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
• Notifies appropriate city officials and prepares reports.
• Performs patrols of hospital buildings and grounds on foot and vehicle.
• Conducts investigations of hazards, theft, and safety issues.
• Monitors access control, alarms, and video systems.
• Controls traffic to ensure emergency access and safety.
• Provides escorts for staff to their vehicles.
• Responds to emergency codes per guidelines.
• Enforces hospital policies and maintains professional image.
• Conducts contraband searches as needed.
• Oversees staff parking permit processes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
