Job summary

Mercy Medical Center is seeking an RN Patient Flow Coordinator for the night shift to optimize patient placement based on diagnosis, physician preference, and bed availability. You will oversee the One Call Center and coordinate triage and transfers to facilitate admissions.

The role requires nursing licensure in Iowa, 2+ years of clinical nursing experience, and knowledge of insurance eligibility and regulatory requirements. Strong communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current license as a registered nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
• BSN or degree in healthcare related field preferred.
• Two years clinical nursing experience required.
• Experience in Patient Access, Admissions and Flow Operations, preferred.
• Proof of Mandatory Reporter training within three months of hire.
• BLS certification by end of orientation (approximately six weeks).
• Basic understanding of computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient admissions to assure appropriate patient placement.
• Focuses on efficient bed utilization when assigning beds based on diagnosis, needs, and availability.
• Performs admission reviews to ensure hospitalization is warranted.
• Projects bed placement needs using census information.
• Oversees One Call Center calls and triages/transfers to facilitate admission.
• Communicates bed placement with relevant staff and departments.
• Facilitates referrals to care coordination and liaison with physicians.
