Job summary

Mercy Medical Center is seeking a Night Shift RN Patient Flow Coordinator to oversee patient placement and admission processes. You will manage bed utilization, triage calls, and coordinate with care teams to facilitate timely admissions.

The role requires nursing licensure and relevant experience, with collaboration across departments to ensure efficient workflows and compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current license as a registered nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
• BSN or degree in healthcare related field preferred.
• Two years clinical nursing experience required.
• Experience in Patient Access, Admissions and Flow Operations, preferred.
• Proof of Mandatory Reporter training within three months of hire.
• Basic understanding of computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient admissions to assure appropriate patient placement.
• Focuses on efficient bed utilization when assigning beds based on diagnosis, needs, and availability.
• Conducts admission reviews per the UM plan to ensure hospitalization is warranted.
• Oversees incoming calls and triages transfers to facilitate admission to Mercy Medical Center.
• Communicates bed placement explanations to relevant departments and staff.
• Facilitates referrals to care coordination and supports pre-authorization when needed.
• Acts as liaison between doctors, offices, facilities and Mercy to facilitate admission.
