Job summary

MercyOne is seeking a Night Shift RN Patient Flow Coordinator to manage patient placement and bed utilization at Mercy Medical Center. The role oversees the One Call Center, triages calls, and coordinates admissions with protocol-driven workflows.

The position emphasizes nursing judgment, collaboration with physicians and departments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for admission and utilization review.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current license as a registered nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
• BSN or degree in healthcare related field preferred.
• Two years clinical nursing experience required.
• Experience in Patient Access, Admissions and Flow Operations, preferred.
• Proof of Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
• BLS certification by end of orientation period.
• Basic understanding of computer applications.
• Knowledge of eligibility requirements for insurance coverage: ambulatory, observation, surgical, acute and subacute care.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient admissions to assure appropriate placement.
• Focuses on bed utilization when assigning beds.
• Conducts admission reviews per UM plan to ensure hospitalization is warranted.
• Uses census data to project bed needs and placement.
• Oversees One Call Center calls and triages transfers to admissions.
• Communicates bed placement to department staff and managers.
• Facilitates referrals to care coordination and discharge planning.
• Assists with pre-authorization of services as needed.
