Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical Surgical Step-Down Unit. This PRN per diem night shift role supports patient care across adult populations with a focus on safe, evidence-based practice and collaboration with the care team.

The ideal candidate has a Texas nursing license, current BLS and ACLS, and at least 1 year of RN experience in a medical‑surgical setting. BSN preferred; strong communication and critical thinking skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved nursing program with English literacy.
• RN experience: 1 year in a medical‑surgical setting.
• Current Texas nursing license (NLC) and BLS required.
• ACLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments.
• Develop and implement a care plan with patient and family involvement.
• Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team and document care interventions.
• Prioritize nursing interventions based on assessment and changes in condition.
• Educate patients and families and provide discharge planning information.
• Adhere to hospital policies and professional standards of practice.
• Participate in quality and safety initiatives and performance improvement.
