Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide all aspects of respiratory care in accordance with department policies. You will work with considerable independence to deliver patient-focused care in a demanding hospital setting.

Responsibilities include reviewing charts, administering therapies, drawing ABGs, and supervising students and agency staff. Current NBRC RRT, MA license, BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS are required; BS degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Respiratory Care.
• Current NBRC-registered RRT credential.
• Massachusetts state respiratory care license.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (required within 3 months of employment).
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification (required within 3 months of employment).
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (required within 3 months of employment).
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science or higher.

Responsibilities

• Works as part of a team to ensure optimal patient care.
• Reviews patients electronic medical record for appropriate history, reason for admission, pertinent laboratory/radiological data, current orders.
• Administers aerosolized medications.
• Draws and analyzes Arterial Blood Gases. Reports Critical Values per hospital policy.
• Consults with physician staff concerning the most efficacious forms of therapy and makes recommendations to enhance patient care.
• Monitors patient’s physiological responses to therapy and communicates with physicians as needed.
• Provides emergency care and assists with intubation and rapid response teams.
• Maintains and validates respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
• Provides supervision for respiratory therapy students and agency staff.
• Maintains patient and department records in EMR/MAR.
