Job summary

Southeast Health is seeking a phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and accessioning across the hospital laboratory, outpatient and off-site services, including night shifts.

The role requires precise patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and timely transport to the lab for testing. Certification eligible with the National Phlebotomy Association is preferred, along with LIS experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of full-time phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Certification eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.
• Proficient in LIS accessioning and reference laboratory send-outs.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
• Determines priority of STAT draws.
• Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing.
• Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.
• Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload statistics.
• Helps co-workers and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure an orderly workflow.
• Under supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at the hospital in the performance of phlebotomy duties.
• Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures.
• Performs electrocardiograms.
