Responsibilities

• Draw blood for testing, transfusions, donations, and research.
• Explain blood collection procedures to patients and assist with care during reactions.
• Perform venipuncture using vacuum tubes, syringes, or butterfly methods.
• Perform capillary blood collection using dermal puncture techniques.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps and biohazard materials per policies and laws.
• Enter patient and specimen data into the computer system accurately.
