Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect and transport blood samples from inpatients and outpatients. The role involves venipuncture, ensuring sample quality, and documenting chain of custody.

The position requires completion of phlebotomy training or 6 months of phlebotomy experience, eligibility for certification, and strong computer skills to manage the Laboratory information system. It is a full-time night shift with on-call expectations.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of approved phlebotomy training course, or 6 months phlebotomy experience in hospital or patient care setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture, capillary fingerstick or heel puncture, selecting the best collection method for patient comfort and sample quality.
• Monitor test collections and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody.
• Accession, reschedule, and order/cancel test requests in the Laboratory information system.
• Be available by pager during shift for stat collections and pickups.
• Coordinate with phlebotomists and lab staff to ensure timely collection and testing of samples.
• Operate pneumatic tube system for sending/receiving specimens and monitor the workflow.
