Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a phlebotomist to collect venipuncture and capillary blood samples for inpatient and outpatient testing. Responsibilities include performing EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing, reviewing orders, and preparing ABN when tests do not meet medical necessity.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with phlebotomy training or equivalent experience.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Ability to collect blood samples by venipuncture per guidelines.
• Accurate specimen labeling and handling.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy on patients.
• Review requisitions and ensure tests meet Medical Necessity; obtain ABN when needed.
• Perform EKG, pulse oximetry and point-of-care testing; maintain quality control of instruments.
• Process specimens including centrifugation, labeling, and packaging.
• Provide patient data for registration in ADT system; assist with outreach specimen registration.
