Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Safety Observer to provide continuous safety oversight for assigned patients. The role supports daily living activities, documentation, and collaboration with nursing staff to maintain patient comfort and safety.

The position is non-exempt with a 7p–7a shift, 36 hours per week. Prior healthcare exposure is preferred; CPR certification is required within 6 months. A signing bonus may be available during the interview process.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains good human relations with patients and families.
• Observes for suicidal and/or violent behavior and keeps patients in sight.
• Monitors visitors to prevent unsafe materials from reaching patients.
• Maintains 15-minute checks with documentation as directed.
• May assist with activities of daily living and transport as needed.
• Follows nurse in charge and works as part of the care team.
• Functions in a float position to support areas with patient needs.
• Upholds patient dignity and advocates for the patient.
