Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Night shift Unit Clerk/Patient Care Assistant. This role combines direct patient care with unit clerical duties under supervision of a Clinical Nurse.

You will help maintain a clean, safe environment and assist with patient flow, tests and procedures, and access to care for families and vendors. The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, and may require CPR/BLS certification and PCA training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department under direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Maintains a clean and orderly environment for the patient.
• Provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures for the patient and maintain patient records.
• May sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
