Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a flexible Unit Secretary/Patient Care Assistant to perform a blend of direct patient care and clerical tasks. You will assist under a Clinical Nurse, help maintain a clean, safe environment, and guide physicians, patients and families.

You may schedule tests, manage records, and help with equipment and supplies. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with CPR certification typically needed.

Qualifications

• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification through AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of patient care procedures and infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties.
• Administers care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
• Gives information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records.
• May sign patients in and out of the unit and handle equipment and supplies for the team.
• May provide continuous observation for safety, including suicide prevention.
