Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a Unit Secretary/PCA in a Full Time Nights role. You will provide direct patient care and perform unit clerical duties under a Clinical Nurse supervisor, ensuring a clean, orderly environment and assisting physicians, patients, families, and vendors.

You may schedule tests, maintain records, sign patients in/out, and help with equipment logistics. Prior acute care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA education program is required, along with AHA BLS

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Administers care to designated patients and supports the patient care team.
• Maintains a clean and orderly environment and provides information and directions to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
