Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Surgical Care Center. This full-time night role runs 6pm–6:30am with rotating weekends. Under RN supervision, you will perform basic patient care, monitor vital signs, assist with daily living activities, and document care.

A CNA/CMA/EMT or nursing student with clinical completed and BLS are required. Northwestern Medicine is an equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multitasking under stress.
• Prioritizes unit work and communicates effectively with staff and family.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Manages unit workflow with charge RN or assistant manager.
• Verifies daily census lists and patient admissions/discharges as needed.
