Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Adult Short Stay Unit (LLJCP) in Iowa City. This role supports the Nursing team under RN supervision and focuses on caring for medical and surgical patients with short stays.

Responsibilities include vital signs, basic procedures, patient transfers, personal care, and unit housekeeping. Shifts are night with weekend/holiday rotations; part-time merit appointment in UI Health Care Main Campus.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
• Assists with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.
• Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
• Turns, positions and ambulates patients.
• Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
