Job summary

UPMC Community Osteopathic is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Med/Surg Unit in Harrisburg. This part-time, night-shift role offers 24 hours per week and requires every-other weekend and holiday coverage.

You will assist with ADLs, procedures, and patient comfort under RN supervision, while maintaining accurate documentation and patient safety. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, healthcare exposure or enrollment in a health sciences program, and CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of general healthcare experience or enrollment in PT/OT/PA/RN program with a clinical rotation.
• Bachelor's degree in health sciences acceptable.
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
• Basic information system training completed.
• CPR/BLS per AHA standards within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Document in the medical record per procedures and report changes to RN.
• Respond to call lights, pass meal trays, and support unit activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and health care team.
• Learn and apply departmental safety policies and quality initiatives.
• May perform advanced skills as needed based on unit requirements.
