Job summary

The University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks a Patient Care Technician to support the Adult Acute Care Trauma/Surgery unit on the night shift. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with 2 years of hospital patient care experience or approved nursing aide training, plus BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with relevant patient care training or experience.
• Two years of direct patient care in a hospital setting preferred.
• Completion of approved Nursing Aide program or CNA certification beneficial.
• UMMC externship or PCT training considered an asset.
• Basic Life Support certification required post-hire within three months.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care and emotional support to patients and families.
• Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming and mobility.
• Measure and report vital signs to the nurse or care team.
• Perform basic patient care procedures per policies and competencies.
• Collect and transport specimens as needed.
• Assist with patient transport for tests and transfers within the facility.
• Support clinical staff with procedures and treatments.
• Perform point-of-care testing and other duties as assigned by unit needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records.
• Respond to call lights and communicate patient needs to the care team.
• Maintain a clean, safe patient environment and adhere to infection control.
• Assist with stocking supplies, inventory, and clerical tasks as needed.
• Serve as a resource or preceptor to new staff when assigned.
