Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Medical-Surgical-Oncology unit on the night shift. Under the supervision of an RN, you will perform basic patient care activities and support the care team.

You will monitor vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, report changes to nursing staff, and help maintain a clean, orderly unit while prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CNA, CMA, EMT or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Preferred: Phlebotomy experience.
• Preferred: Graduate of an accredited CNA or Phlebotomy program.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN.
• Monitors vital signs and records intake/output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Prioritizes unit workload in coordination with RN/manager.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls and communicates information to staff, family, or patient.
• Manages unit workflow on an as-needed basis.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission/discharge data as needed.
