Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support nursing staff on a full-time night shift. You will perform basic nursing tasks under an RN, assist with daily living activities, and maintain a clean, organized unit environment.

The role requires a HS diploma or equivalent, CNA/EMT or nursing student status, and BLS certification. The position emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and effective communication within a dynamic hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA, CMA, EMT or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed required or preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating).
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stress.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights politely and relays information to appropriate staff/family/patient.
• Manages unit workflow with charge RN/assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
