Job summary

UPMC West Shore in Mechanicsburg, PA is seeking a Patient Care Technician - Specialist for the Emergency Department on a part-time night schedule. The role supports nurses with ADLs, procedures, and patient comfort while maintaining safety and accurate charting.

This position requires a high school diploma and healthcare experience or enrollment in a health program; CPR/BLS; and the ability to report to the RN. Weekend/holiday coverage is included as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have either: a) 2 years of general healthcare experience with phlebotomy/venipuncture; OR b) 1 year of experience and enrollment in PT/OT/PA/RN program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation; OR c) 1 year of experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

Responsibilities

• Assists with ADLs (bathing, feeding, transferring, toileting, ambulating, repositioning).
• Documents in the medical record and reports equipment malfunctions.
• Responds to call lights, passes meal trays, transports patients; maintains safety and policy adherence.
• Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and status changes.
• Performs core PCT responsibilities including point-of-care testing and basic procedures as assigned.
