Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Lansing, MI is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant support to assist nursing staff under a registered nurse. The role involves patient care, data entry, and clerical tasks on the night shift (7p-7a) with a 48-hour per pay period schedule.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of relevant health unit coordinator or medical terminology courses. BLS certification is required; prior nursing assistant experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course or, high school or college course work in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
• Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include: acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or long term care nursing assistant course or EMT program or medical assistant program or clinical rotation in accredited nursing program.
• Prior nursing assistant experience of at least six months is required when the specialized education requirements identified above has not been met.
• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
• Six months of clerical experience in healthcare setting. Direct patient care experience.
• Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine patient/resident care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, etc.
• Collects, records, and reports various patient/resident data. Reports changes in patient/resident condition.
• Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.
