Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician for full-time third shift at the ACL Laboratories - South Sub Core Lab in Illinois. The role involves performing and evaluating a wide range of laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, and providing timely results for critical care departments.

Requires MLT certification within 1 year or AMT alternative and an associate or bachelor’s degree in clinical lab science or related field. Schedule is 3rd shift, 10:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows reported policies.
• Performs and documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment; documents quality control and corrective actions.
• Recognizes indicators of test/instrument malfunction and notifies senior staff as needed.
• Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients per protocol and ensures proper labeling.
• Provides technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
• Assists in improving laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
• Performs all internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
• Performs specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Provides direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments during high acuity events.
