Job summary

Advocate Health's IL ACL Laboratories – IL Central Lab: Histology is seeking a full-time Histology Technician for 3rd shift (start between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.), working an 8.5-hour shift. You will accessions specimens, embeds tissue, and perform staining and slide distribution under supervision.

Requirements include advanced training in a science field; no prior experience is required. Expect quality control duties, support for pathologists, and maintenance of lab equipment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of human anatomy.
• Must be detail oriented and have good organizational and communication skills.
• Must know how to safely handle sharp instruments.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Must be able to problem solve.

Responsibilities

• Accession specimens and prepare tissue sections for testing.
• Embed tissue in paraffin blocks and maintain filing for blocks and slides.
• Process tissue to ensure preservation and infiltration by paraffin.
• Perform routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, and slide distribution.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, stains, and QC per protocols.
• Document quality control results and take corrective action under supervision.
• Assist pathologists during procedures and maintain equipment.
