Job summary

Mercyhealth in Wisconsin seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to process samples and perform clinical lab procedures across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and blood bank. This night-shift, 24-hours-per-week role requires weekend availability and performing QC activities to ensure accuracy.

You will receive ongoing training, assist in instrument maintenance, and help educate new partners, while ensuring timely, precise test results and reporting to clinicians.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent. Must meet CLIA high complexity testing qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Receive patients, order and collect samples, and produce reports required to perform job tasks.
• Perform lab tests in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank or microbiology by automated and manual methods.
• Analyze test results prior to release of information to chart for validity and accuracy.
• Ensure turnaround times for results and report critical results appropriately.
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures as defined by policy.
• Interpret and troubleshoot quality control results to ensure accurate results.
• Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
• Participate in method and instrument evaluation and implementation.
• Participate in teaching and training of new partners and students.
• Maintain competency in current procedures and gain competency for new methods implemented.
• Collect patient specimens.

Education

Associate degree in medical laboratory science or military equivalent or must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard: Testing personnel qualifications.
