Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Winfield (Central DuPage Hospital) seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform chemistry testing on the 3rd shift, 10pm–6:30am, with rotating weekends and holidays.

This full-time role includes pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic duties, instrument maintenance, QC, specimen handling, result reporting, and adherence to SOPs; requires MLS/MT certification and ASCP eligibility; background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the ASCP, or equivalent certification examination.
• License/Certification and Regulatory Agency.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible or
• Categorical BB, C, H or M (ASCP) Certification or eligible
• If hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified (or equivalent certification) within one year of employment

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure orders are entered correctly and specimens are appropriate for tests.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information according to protocol; handles unresolved orders.
• Collects, receives and processes specimens; ensures proper labeling and prioritization.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs; maintains test system integrity and QC.
• Performs post-analytical tasks: releases results, documents reports, and ensures data accuracy.
• Trains and assists in new test development, validations and implementation; adheres to safety and confidentiality policies.
