Job summary

North Shore Medical Center, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to receive, label, and distribute clinical specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples. You will verify patient information, accession samples into the LIS, and prepare them for testing.

You will also monitor inventory, ensure proper storage and disposal, and keep the lab clean while collaborating with staff and healthcare providers for timely, accurate processing. Lift up to 50 pounds and work in a team environment.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s degree preferred or high school diploma with health care experience.
• Licenses/credentials: experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting 1–2 years preferred.
• Knowledge of basic lab equipment and terminology; detail-oriented and accurate.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Receive, label, and distribute clinical specimens (blood, urine, tissue).
• Verify patient information and accession samples into LIS; prepare for testing.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Follow procedures for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory area.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards including PPE and accreditation requirements.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely processing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by laboratory management.
