Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Clinical Lab Assistant for the Central Specimen Receiving on the full-time overnight shift (10pm–6:30am) in Chicago. You will support the laboratory workflow, receive and route specimens, and help maintain accurate lab data in the LIS.

The role includes phlebotomy when needed and requires a high school diploma with preferred lab experience; you will work with a collaborative team and adhere to all ethics and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Preferred: 1 year of experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with main lab staff and departments to ensure patient care.
• Receives specimens into the laboratory information system.
• Inputs and retrieves lab results in the hospital system.
• Distributes specimens to testing areas.
• Identifies and solves problems with supervisor/colleagues.
• Perform waived testing under CLS direction.
• Ensure appropriate sample type and container for testing.
• Communicate specimen rejections and results to clinical staff.
