Job summary

North Shore Medical Center, Inc. is seeking a Per Diem Laboratory Technician to receive, label, and distribute clinical specimens, verify patient data, and prepare samples for testing. The role supports the laboratory information system and maintains supplies and equipment.

The position requires 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting, an associate degree (or HS diploma with equivalent experience), and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds while working onsite.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and terminology.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Receive, label, and distribute clinical laboratory specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
• Process specimens by verifying patient information, accessioning into the laboratory information system, and preparing samples for testing.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
• Follow established procedures and protocols for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory area.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards including use of PPE and hazardous materials disposal.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by laboratory management.
