Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a part-time Hospital Telecommunication Operator to serve as the central hub for routing calls, paging, and emergency communications. You will support patients, visitors, and staff with professional service while maintaining logs and assisting with on-call schedules.

The role involves night shifts (11pm–7am) on Sundays and Mondays in Week 1, and Fridays and Saturdays in Week 2. Prior switchboard experience preferred, plus strong interpersonal skills and basic computer

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal/communications skills.
• Above average verbal skill to communicate with the public.
• Required knowledge of basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming calls promptly and professionally, routing to appropriate departments.
• Screens and routes calls accurately; provides general hospital information.
• Retrieves and conveys information; escalates issues appropriately.
• Initiates and communicates hospital emergency codes per protocol.
• Maintains logs and documentation of calls and critical events.
• Manages paging systems and on-call schedules as needed.
• Monitors switchboard and paging systems; escalates if issues arise.
• Supports safety and security communications during events.
• Documents updates and handoffs during shift changes.
• Provides first-level troubleshooting for communication devices and tools.
