Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Health Unit Assistant to support a busy healthcare unit. The 7:00 pm–7:30 am shift on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus 2–3 holidays per year, offers opportunities to contribute to patient flow and unit operations with professionalism and discretion.

You’ll welcome patients and staff, answer calls, maintain accurate records in the EHR, coordinate admissions/transfers/discharges, and assist with scheduling tests and follow-ups while upholding privacy

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of clerical or healthcare-related experience preferred.
• Strong communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients, visitors, and staff with professionalism.
• Answer and direct phone calls and unit communications promptly.
• Update patient records in the EHR system with accuracy.
• Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges with nursing staff.
• Assist with scheduling tests and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain office equipment and supplies.
• Assist with orienting new staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor.
