Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a full-time Custodian II to maintain cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. The role includes training, supervising other custodial staff, and securing buildings after hours.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, restrooms, gyms, cafeterias, and common areas; performing light maintenance such as changing lights and replenishing supplies; and assisting other staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Must know effective cleaning techniques and routine preventive maintenance.
• Ability to learn and operate cleaning machines/equipment and adapt to upgrades.
• Ability to train and guide other staff and maintain morale.
• Strong written and verbal communication; respond to emergencies and weather challenges.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate custodial work to maintain cleanliness of school buildings and grounds.
• Secure building, take out trash, clean bathrooms, halls, classrooms and gym.
• Mop, buff, and strip floors; clean cafeteria after activities.
• Replace lights and refill paper and soap dispensers.
• Support and supervise Custodian IIs as needed.
• Set up and move chairs, assist other staff, and perform related tasks.
