Job summary

First Choice Services is seeking compassionate Crisis Counselors to join our Charleston, WV area team. You will respond to 988 Lifeline calls, chats, and texts, providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling to individuals in emotional crisis.

We value empathy, active listening, and strong customer service skills, and require a High School Diploma or equivalent. A four-year degree in social/behavioral health is preferred, with background checks and post-offer drug screening.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Four-year degree in social or behavioral health services field preferred.
• Strong emotional fortitude and self-awareness.
• Background check and pre-employment drug screen after offer.
• Ability to work assigned shift and have reliable transportation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with computers and typing requested.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming 988 calls, chats, and texts.
• Provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention support.
• Offer brief supportive counseling to individuals in emotional crisis.
• Document interactions in appropriate systems and conduct follow-ups as needed.
