Job summary

Osceola County Government seeks an experienced inmate classifications professional to assess housing needs, provide counseling, and guide inmate program participation. You will manage inmate movement, coordinate with security staff, and support daily classification operations within the Corrections Facility.

The role requires a background in criminal justice or related field, one year in corrections, and a valid Florida driver’s license. Night shift differential pay applies to this position.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field.
• Experience: One year in criminal justice, corrections, and/or social work; equivalence considered.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Classify inmates according to jail rules and housing placement requirements.
• Monitor custody, housing, and program placements; reclassify as needed.
• Coordinate with Security Staff to address housing and placement issues.
• Respond to inmate requests and grievances about housing rules and regulations.
• Screen and assign inmates as trustee workers per policy.
• Handle telephone inquiries and act as liaison to Corrections staff.
• Counsel inmates to aid adjustment to jail life and address personal issues.
• Perform administrative support: data analysis, typing, reports, documentation.
• Conduct counseling interviews and address inmate interests and concerns.
• Coordinate education and work schedules; assist in community re-entry planning.
• Assist inmates to obtain legal documentation from research liaison.
• Calculate jail sentences and apply gain time for release dates.
• Liaise with other departments for information dissemination and feedback.
