Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for the night shift (11pm–7am). You will disassemble, clean, sterilize, reassemble and package sterile supplies, selecting appropriate methods for different instruments and operating washers, sterilizers and related equipment.

Responsibilities include maintaining instrument counts, rotating trays, ensuring safety, and communicating instrument needs to perioperative staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) or provisional CRCST is required.
• Must complete minimum annual continuing education credits required by NY State.
• Prior experience processing surgical information is preferred.
• Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, cleans, sterilizes, reassembles and packages sterile supplies according to specifications.
• Uses appropriate sterilization methods for various instrumentation types.
• Operates washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers.
• Adheres to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
• Covers and rotates trays per sterile storage guidelines.
• Follows safety protocols to prevent injuries.
• Retrieves used trays and equipment for decontamination.
• Examines instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
• Notifies supervisor of malfunctioning items.
• Transports sterile supplies to locations and assists with inventory.
