Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical services across hospital settings. You will disassemble, reprocess and sterilize instruments, adhering to AORN/AAMI and Joint Commission standards, and maintain clean, organized work areas.

Responsibilities include operating washers and sterilizers, tracking instrument counts, and communicating instrument needs to perioperative staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) OR provisional (CRCST) required.
• Annual continuing education credits required by NY State to maintain certification.
• Prior experience processing surgical information preferred.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds and stand/bend/reach for extended periods.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, cleans, sterilizes, reassembles and packages sterile supplies.
• Operates washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and related equipment.
• Adheres to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
• Covers and rotates trays and sets per sterile storage guidelines.
• Maintains a contaminant-free work environment and documents daily activities per policies.
• Follows safety protocols to prevent injuries and notifies supervisor of any malfunctioning items.
• Receives and fills requisitions from hospital departments and communicates with perioperative staff; transports sterile supplies to locations.
• Assists in ordering, stocking and maintaining department inventory levels.
• Performs related duties as required and adheres to AORN, AAMI and Joint Commission standards.
