Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Supervisor of Cell Operations to lead the night-shift landfill working face, direct operators and laborers, and manage waste placement, compaction, and cover according to the approved plan.

The role requires 5+ years in landfill or heavy-industrial operations, strong leadership, and the ability to respond decisively to safety incidents while coordinating with maintenance, rail, and safety teams. Work is field-based and requires outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related technical training or college coursework preferred.
• 5+ years in landfill/solid-waste/heavy-equipment etc.; direct landfill working-face experience preferred.
• 3+ years leading employees or coordinating an operating shift.
• Experience operating/directing dozers, landfill compactors, excavators, loaders, haul trucks, water trucks, etc.
• Able to work night schedule, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed.
• Outdoors in active landfill; lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead night-shift cell operations, assign work, direct crews, and follow up with operators.
• Review fill plan and site conditions; adjust work plan as conditions change.
• Direct waste placement, compaction, grading, and cover per plan.
• Maintain safe truck flow and monitor traffic at the working face.
• Coordinate with Rail, Scale, Maintenance, Safety, and other teams to maintain waste flow and safety.
• Supervise attendance, breaks, shift coverage, overtime, and timekeeping.
• Onboard and train new staff; provide coaching and feedback.
• Hand off shift performance to day-shift supervisors and Director of Landfill Operations.
• Respond to injuries, incidents, and emergencies; support investigations.
