Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; Spanish may be required in specific settings.
• Two-year experience in a hospital or health care setting, preferably in registration, billing, cash collections or insurance requirements.
• Proficiency in computers, specifically Microsoft products and email.
• Typing skills of 45 wpm or higher required.
• Excellent telephone customer service skills, strong interpersonal communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Willingness to transport patients by wheelchair, meet patient age-specific needs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and verify demographic and financial information for inpatients and outpatients during registration.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, family members, physician offices, third party payers and co-workers.
• Communicate financial/insurance information to case management and financial counseling staff; complete all managed care notification requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital privacy and security policies.
• May enter laboratory and radiology orders when necessary.
• Minimize financial risk by verifying and entering accurate patient information, obtaining signatures on forms and collecting applicable patient payments.
