Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a compassionate Mental Health Worker I for the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center on the 11pm–7am night shift. The role provides direct care, supports rehabilitative programs, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of mental health care principles, teamwork, and the ability to handle crisis situations. A valid driver’s license may be required and overtime is possible.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques utilized in the care, development, and treatment of mentally ill individuals.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals.
• Capacity to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
• Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations.
• Capacity to lift and carry heavy objects or persons.
• Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in a mental health facility.

Responsibilities

• Completes MHW admission information on clients by interviewing, orienting, and documenting the information on the appropriate forms and communicating priorities to the appropriate people in order that care can be delivered.
• Contributes to effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure the quality of client’s care and topromote the image of SCFMHC.
• Ensures assigned coverage and other duties are completed on a daily schedule according to hospital policy confirming a safe and therapeutic environment is maintained.
• Intervenes in managing crisis situations by utilizing hospital policies and procedures to promote the leastrestrictive alternative to ensure optimal client/staff safety.
• Maintains commitment to work related growth and competency through ongoing staff developmentprograms that promote role development.
• Preserves a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, which complies with accrediting and licensing regulations to protect the client’s privacy and dignity.
