Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Mental Health, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital in Worcester, MA, seeks a Mental Health Worker I for Adolescent Services on 2nd shift. The role provides direct care, implements treatment plans, and supports patients’ daily living activities in an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include vital signs, patient escort to appointments, observations, and participation in team meetings to support recovery goals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of English language and effective oral communication.
• Ability to document and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work in a team and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to interact with individuals under stress and maintain calm.
• Capacity to provide ADL and rehabilitative support in inpatient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and assist in ADLs for inpatients.
• Assist in habilitation/rehabilitation and treatment plan implementation.
• Take and report vital signs as instructed.
• Accompany patients to appointments and treatment areas.
• Perform 5, 15, 30-minute checks and 1:1 or constant observation as directed.
• Contribute to Treatment and Recovery Plan interventions with the team.
• Discuss goals with patients during meetings and shift reports.
• Encourage participation in leisure activities to improve social skills.
• Maintain a safe therapeutic environment through observation and communication.
• Review and update Individual Safety Plans as needed.
• Speak up about safety concerns to supervisors; respond to emergencies.
• Utilize de-escalation and trauma-informed strategies as part of care.
• Record information in medical records and daily reports.
• Complete admission forms and orient new patients to care.
• Attend and complete required annual trainings.
