Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking staff for the Emergency Mental Health unit on a 11pm-7am night shift. The role includes direct patient care, clinical documentation, and participation in group activities.

The position emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to treatment plans while supporting a busy inpatient/outpatient mental health environment. Qualified candidates have a high school diploma, BLS/Heart Saver within a month, and at least one year of patient support experience.

Qualifications

• One year of relevant patient support experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
• Must have effective interpersonal skills to interact with patients, staff and visitors.
• Certification requirements include Basic Life Support or Heart Savor within one month.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a member of the Mental Health Team and supports patients, families, nurses and physicians.
• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes in the patient.
• Maintains patient safety through safety checks, rounds, and de-escalation strategies.
• Assists in medical emergencies as directed by the RN and uses proper safety techniques.
• Obtains and records vital signs and basic measurements as assigned by the RN.
• Participates in development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment.
