Job summary

Community Health Systems in Birmingham, AL seeks a Medical Technologist I to perform routine and specialty laboratory tests on blood and body fluids, under minimal supervision. You will ensure accurate results, maintain quality control, and operate instruments while supporting patient care and compliance.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment, data collection for regulatory purposes, and potential teaching of new staff and students. Phlebotomy duties may be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field is required.
• Passing score on CLT Proficiency exam approved by HHS is required.
• 0-2 years acute care experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs moderate and high complexity laboratory tests with accurate reporting.
• Follows quality control procedures and documents results and actions.
• Performs instrument checks and preventative maintenance per policy.
• Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Ensures safety regulations and PPE are followed in all procedures.
• Communicates test results and issues to teammates and supervisors.
• Assists with proficiency testing and data collection for accreditation.
• Performs phlebotomy duties as needed to support patient care.
