Job summary

Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Services Assistant to support daily laboratory operations and patient care. This role combines office support, specimen processing, patient registration, courier duties, and occasional phlebotomy in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include answering calls, entering orders, processing specimens, data accuracy, and compliance with safety standards. Night shift with 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy program, a two-year degree in a biological science/health-related field, or one year of laboratory experience.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License required.
• Current Heartsaver (HS) certification required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory orders required.
• Strong computer, customer service, communication, and telephone skills.
• Ability to type at least 35 WPM.
• Phlebotomy and laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer laboratory phone calls and provide outstanding customer service.
• Register patients and enter laboratory test orders into hospital information systems.
• Receive, process, label, and distribute specimens to appropriate laboratory areas.
• Ensure accurate data entry, report generation, and result distribution.
• Transport patient specimens, supplies, and reports to designated off-site locations.
• Assist with specimen collection and phlebotomy as needed.
• Maintain compliance with Trinity Health policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
