Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for the Night Lab on a part-time basis. Under supervision, you will perform clinical tests, analyze results, and ensure accuracy in a high-volume environment.

The role requires a BS in Medical Technology (or related field with internship), NYS licensure/eligibility, and strong analytical and communication skills. Experience with LIS and instrument troubleshooting is preferred; phlebotomy may be involved.

Qualifications

• BS in Medical Technology with a clinical internship or a related BS with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience.
• NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible.
• Professional accreditation preferred.
• Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
• Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
• Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing.
• Effectively communicates detailed data and procedures
• Works effectively in high-pressure situations
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Performs supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment.
• Analyzes and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.
• Repeats tests as necessary and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Performs basic troubleshooting and informs supervisor of issues.
• Monitors reagent and supply inventory and reports needs.
• Maintains composure and efficiency in high-volume settings.
• Organizes work to enable colleagues to cover.
• Verifies and processes specimens in a timely manner.
• May perform phlebotomy when required.
• Follows all procedures accurately and performs tests.
• Performs Quality Control with proper documentation.
• Documents corrective action when needed.
• Communicates clearly and concisely; uses computers effectively.
• Conveys knowledge to coworkers and students.
